Oriental Rug Cleaning

Specialized 5 Step Cleaning Process

Step 1 – Dusting

EnviroPro’s cleaning process starts with the Dusting stage. This is one of the most important steps in the oriental cleaning process due to the side effects that could develop without removing the dirt and other contaminants that are embedded in the rug. Proceding to the cleaning stage before dusting will cause the embedded dirt to harden around the foundation causing a stiffer, unhealthy rug. A stiff unhealthy rug will dramatically shorten the life span of the rug. For years, companys would dust rugs by hanging them and beating them with a rug beater. Another method that was commonly used was running a rug through a a dusting machine. The problem with these outdated oriental cleaning methods is that they can be harmful to the rugs; often weakening or ripping the foundation. Our advanced method of dusting using compressed air and our patented air wand removes years of embedded soil and contaminants safely from the entire oriental rug without any harmful beating of the rug.

Step 2 – Washing

After the Dusting process, each oriental rug is tested for colorfast dyes. If colorfast dyes are not present and the dyes are unstable and will bleed, we will treat it with our patented DBC to ensure a no bleed wash. If an oriental rug is cleaned through the general cleaning process without colorfast dyes, the dyes will bleed during the wash and permanent stains will develop  to other areas of the rug. For rugs containing colorfast dyes, a submersion wash combined with a disinfectant bath is performed to the rug as part of this healthy cleaning. The rotary action of the rug cleaning equipment assures all cleaning agents and soils are forced out from the foundation up. Another piece of cleaning equipment called a compression wringer is also used, when necessary, to purge out any soils that are deep in the foundation of an oriental rug.

Step 3 – Soft Water Rinse

Once the washing stage is complete, drinkable rinse water conditions are achieved using a jacuzzi-like air rinse system. Dirty and soapy water is filtered out using a constant flow of soft water and a large volume of compressed air. This process ensures that the rug is completely clean and free from everything except clean water prior to entering the wringer press.

Step 4 – Drying

The drying stage is another very important step in the cleaning process. This is because an oriental rug will become stiff if it is not dried in a timely fashion. Our ability to move a constant flow of warm dry air across the rugs ensures a quick drying process. A quicker drying process means that the rugs will dry softer and be healthier overall. The drying for all rugs takes place above ground level on supported drying poles to ensure a dust-free environment as they dry. Once the rugs are dry, they move onto the fringe cleaning stage.

Step 5 – Fringe Cleaning

The final step in the oriental rug cleaning process is cleaning the fringe. This process is performed after the rug is dry to ensure the fringe is left looking new. We are able to achieve this like-new clean and white look without the use of harmful bleaches. The fringe on some oriental rugs tends to brown when the cleaned fringe dries. We are well equipt to handle these semi-frequent occasions with cleaning chemicals specifically designed for this purpose. Once everything is said and done, the absolute final steps are grooming the fringe and passing over the rug with a pyle brush. The grooming step involoves vacuuming the fringe with a unique fringe cleaning tool to ensure that all of the fringe is uniform and all browning has been removed. A final pass with a pyle brush over the rugs surface ensures that all oriental fibers are running the same way which achieves that look of perfection.
